Q:

In extreme weather conditions (hot or cold), there are times when it’s not preferable for the truck to shut off per the Idle Shutdown Timer (IST) setting. Can the IST setting be adjusted?

A:

Yes. All of our trucks have Cold and Hot Ambient Air Temperature setting options.  

If the truck reads a temperature outside the ambient parameters, it will disengage the IST. For instance, if you set the ambient temperature parameters at 32 and 95 degrees, and the temperature falls outside one of those parameters, the truck will remain on and the IST will not shut the truck off. In extreme weather conditions, driver safety is always a priority. However, drivers often become dependent on the trucks staying on. It’s important to coach your drivers on controlling their idle behavior, so when the temperature is outside the parameters they’ll turn the truck off manually instead of accumulating excessive idle.
