Q:

How much fuel is being burned during an idle hour?

A:

Industry estimates suggest that an hour of idle burns 0.75 gallons of fuel. If you have a large fleet, this can add up to thousands of gallons of unproductive fuel burn each week.

If a driver is utilizing the cruise pad to override the Idle Shutdown Timer, this process raises the RPM at which the vehicle idles. This leads to an estimated 1 gallon per hour of unproductive fuel burn and will show up on the scorecard as PTO Hours.
