I am having a difficult time managing certain idle behaviors in my fleet. For the life of me, I can’t get my drivers (or warehouse personnel) to stop using the PTO override on their vehicles.
In these instances, we recommend having the vehicles engine parameters changed. Service technicians can change the Idle Shutdown Timer to Tamper Proof mode. When the vehicle is changed to Tamper Proof, it will no longer accept the PTO override steps and vehicle will shut down as designed.
It should be noted, we consider this a last resort. We believe you should focus on improving driver behaviors and holding your drivers responsible for their vehicle. However, in extreme circumstances where coaching and discipline attempts have failed, it is an option.
